Catcher In The Rye

Author: J. D. Salinger

Summary: The narrator describes a brief chapter in his sixteenth year alive. (how do you like that)

Review: It is a good book in the sense that the writing was good.....but....I hate (not hate, strongly dislike) the main character. He is so stupid and arrogant and dogone makes me go "whateve" every other line in the story. Gosh. But I kept reading the book. Holden is seventeen, but is narrating a story that took place when he was sixteen. I think I can sort of relate to him in that way. Age. And that's about it. Teenagers do not cuss that often and so randomly. I think he wasn't even using his foul language correctly! Grrr. He seems to be a real jerk and moron, but then he goes off on a sentimental tangent. I'm just like "What the heck are you!?". lol. The ending was pretty pointless. I didn't really understand the purpose of the book, but I read more to enjoy the story than to find its importance in the world. It is on the AP list so something must be good about it. Holden is a crazy kid. The bottom line. :)

Rating: For me it was a 3.5 The writing was very interesting and I kept thinking something really important was going to happen. It kept me reading, but when I finished, I felt like I had wasted my precious reading time!

Stay

Artist: Big Bang

Language: Japanese

About: This is one of the songs from their Japanese Album. "Stay" showcases all of the members' voices perfectly. None are thrown out of the mix and it has a wonderful melody. It is slower than some of their other songs and I'm pretty anti-slow songs, but I love this one! :) Comment if you liked it too! You know that I'm mostly a "favorite songs" person. I'm not really into "favorite artists", but so far, I've liked every song by Big Bang that I've listened to. ^.^

Awesomeness.... ^.^

The Perfect Girl Evolution

Language: Japanese (drama)

# of Episodes: 10 (so little)

Summary: Sunako Nakahara is a horror girl. After a guy she liked in highschool called her ugly, Sunako became very gothic and surrounded herself with creepy things. Her aunt, concerned for her, asks 4 gorgeous guys who are boarding at her boarding house to make Sunako into a lady. If they do, then their rent will be free until they graduate college.

Kyohei really doesn't have money. It is difficult for him to keep a job because of his looks. He is always followed by hordes of girls and even his bosses sexually harass him! He is very willing to make Sunako into a lady, except that he didn't know she was a creeper when he accepted.

Takenaga is supposed to take over the family business, but wishes to lead a somewhat independent life. Yuki is made fun of because he kind of looks like a girl. Ranmaru is a very suave player, but his parents have a girl in mind for him to marry. Now that all five of them are living together, how are they going to make Sunako's complex about her looks go away so that she can become a lady?!

Review: OMG! I watched the anime for this and fell in love with it. I'm so sad that this live action drama is over already! How can it be!? There were only ten episodes, but each one was awesome. The ending of the anime was kinda lame, but this drama ended PERFECTLY! Gah! ^.^ It is funny and sweet and just all around awesome! The actors were perfect. Some people think that the actor for Takenaga was the most handsome instead of Kyohei. Kyohei is actually suppossed to be the beautifulest according to the anime and drama. Although Takenaga might be very cute, I thought he was also the best in the anime, but KYOHEI is my favorite. He's awesomeness!!! Very funny and so cute! Ha. I sound like a crazed fangirl. I really do love this drama though! Laughed a lot and I cried in some parts too. T.T poor kyohei.

Actors:

Kamenashi Kazuya as Kyohei: He is part of the band KAT-TUN and a very good actor. lovely! xD

Oomasa Aya as Sunako-Chan

You can watch it on dramacrazy.net and also on YouTube both with English subtitles.

The Joy Luck Club

Author: Amy Tan

Summary: The story has seven narrators. Daughters of Chinese women and then also the mothers themselves share their individual stories and their lives together with each other.

Review: A modern classic. Easy to follow and short to read. I loved it. Definately very close to topping my list of my favorite books ever. Everyone should read it, especially daughters. It was so well told and had sufficient figurative language to make it fantastical, that I only have one objection.

The chapters are all in first person, but because they alternate a lot, it gets difficult to figure out who's who and what that who's story is. You might need to make a little chart, so it is easier to understand. lol. I hope that if you've read it, you liked it and if you haven't then you will. Thanks! Have a super duper awesome day people! I only have this week left before spring break. Help me get through the torturous hours of school and homework.

Why do teachers insist on cramming students with as much stuff as they can right before break and then giving us a test on it the monday we get back when we don't even remember what we ate last night!? Sorry. That's it for my rant....for today....muahahaha.

Beast/B2st

Artist: Beast aka B2st

Language: Mostly Korean

Songs Featured: Bad Girl and Mystery

About: This is a new Korean boy band that just debuted with this song "Bad Gilr" I think. I don't really like their style in it, though. I'm really into the slightly technoish sound right now. :D They kind of look like girls in the mv. They should get a different wardrobe person. :) The next song is Mystery and that has been on the Kpop singles chart for a while now in the top twenty. Love this song. Very awesome and catchy!

Bad Girl MV:

Mystery. (no mv yet?) They look slightly better in live version. This vid also has the English translation and the romanized lyrics! :)

:) I had to resize the vids so if it looks a bit off then you know why. (:

Forget-Her-Nots Blog Tour Stop! :)

Hi everyone! I'm really psyched about being able to take part in my first blog tour and for such an awesome book! So, I have an interview with the very nice Amy Brecount White in celebration of her book, Forget-Her-Nots!

First though, I would like to gift you all with...

a bouquet of Gardenias (cape jasmine kind)

What does this flower represent? It is all about happiness. "I am too happy" is what it would say if it could. :) I got it from Amy's Language of Flowers page so check it out for more flowers and their meanings. I love it! Do you know that if you gather all seven flowers for this week and post them in the proper spot on Amy's site then you can enter to win some fabulous prizes? Well you officially know now, so go check out the other blogs for the week! HERE you can find information on the contest and the links to other tour spots. And now for the interview....

1. Well, since your book, Forget-Her-Nots, is about flower power, did you draw from your own knowledge on this subject, or did you have to research?
Both. Growing up I had a neighbor who grew different and lovely plants like bleeding hearts. My mom also loves to garden, so I inherited that from her, too. I also had to observe a lot, because the timeline of the plot had to be in sync with flower bloom times. Certain flowers only bloom a few weeks out of the year, which made it tricky. And I read about 20 books and articles on the language of flowers.

2. What are you most afraid of? (I think I have a phobia concerning bugs)
Heights. I want to jump. Really. It's VEEERY scary.

3. How long did it take you to make up the names of your characters? Did you use the names of people you know?
Lots of my characters have floral names -- Laurel, Rose, Iris, Lily -- which is part of the novel's lore and great fun. I would never name a character after anyone I knew -- too confusing and they might not like their fictionalized self!

4. What book are you currently reading?
A Most Improper Magick: The Unladylike Adventures of Kat Stephenson by the awesome fellow Tenner Stephanie Burgis. Just started, but I love it so far!

5. What's your favorite YA book?
I'll have to list two: Graceling by Kristin Cashore and The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak.

6. How long did it take you to write Forget-Her-Nots?
Eight years from start to published. I know -- yikes! I was also writing articles for newspapers and magazines and working on other novels, but it was a longer, rockier journey that I anticipated.

7. Want to share a couple of random facts about yourself with us?
I'm a chocoholic, but I'm allergic to nuts and peanuts, which makes it frustrating sometimes. I adore snorkling coral reefs and looking at all the lovely fish, so I really hope we don't destroy them. Today, my favorite word is ephemeral.

8. Do you want to add anything? :)
Flowers are truly magical!

Night World No. 3

Author: L.J Smith

Review: I think it ended strong. Although I felt a little tired of the series by this point, but the story kept intriguing me. This volume was kind of its own story because it talked about the four wild powers which precede the most interesting event of the books. Apocalypse. I would say that it was just as good as the others because of the new element. It allowed the story to have more a purpose and impact. I hope you guys reach this volume because it was good. :)

A.Mi.Go

Artist: ShinEE

About: Korean 5-member group that debuted in 2008. The title of the song is an acronymn for something like "the heart hurts when you fall in love a beauty" (wiki). I love its addictiveness and shinEE is really growing on me. I listened to their first song "Replay" and there started my obsession with the group! Hope that you guys like them as much as I did because I think they've got great sound. :) There MV is not one of my favorites. It was very ehh. They don't look too good in it.

Eat You Up

Artist: BoA Kwon (beat of angel)

Language: English

About: She released a cd here in the United States which contained this song. She is an amazing dance and I wish I could dance like that, but I'm no dancer. I love dancing though. A lot. Everyday I dance in my room for about 20 minutes because it is super fun. Lately I've been really into Korean Pop. :) Okay....back to BoA. BoA speaks Japanese, Korean, and some English and has also recorded some songs in Mandarin Chinese. She is originally from Korea and I believe she released her first album when she was 13. I think that's right. This song is very up beat and kind of reminds me of DBSK's Mirotic. It is urban hip hop and although I don't particulary like the lyrics, I can't help but be swept up by the beat. Mainstreamish pop is popular for a reason, I guess. :) Doesn't she remind you a little of Avril Lavigne here? Or is it just me?
